The Festival of Dead Deer

Before there were Moving Units, Year Future, and Ground Unicorn Horn, there was Chris Hathwell, who plays in all three and there was his great, doomed punk band The Festival of Dead Deer. They were great because the noise they made could melt steel and boil blood, and they were doomed because they reared up fast, spat out beautiful music, then vanished into the ether. Their album The Many Faces of Mental Illness (ThreeOneG) gives us 14 faces of mental illness in 44:57 minutes of frantic, stained-to-nothing vocals, sludgy razor sharp breakdowns, and song structure that bucks from one extreme to the next. We see guitar leads as attacking snakes, drums that co-opt hardcore's blast beats and R&B's submarine groove. It has all the screaming beauty of Gravity's catalogue, the kind of angularity a million bands have since tried for, in turn turning the very idea of angularity (or at least the search for it) into a joke. This record isn't a joke. It's not a half-ass screamo cash in or a trend-searching fashion parade. Take all your preconceptions and theories of what punk is and flush 'em down the fucking shitter. This is the sound of bones crushing to dust. Love it or get out of the way and pretend you're not afraid to look the thing in the eye.

Four-piece screamo band from Amherst, Massachusetts featuring Jayson Green (Violent Bullshit, Panthers, ex-Orchid), Will Killingsworth (Ampere, Failures, Vaccine, The Toll, Won't Belong, No Faith, ex-Orchid, ex-Bucket Full of Teeth, ex-Laceration), Andy Skelly (Ampere), and James Clarke. Ritual Mess play a style of music that incorporates elements of hardcore punk and screamo within their sound. Musically, Ritual Mess' sound harkens back to Gravity records / 90's San Diego emotive hardcore.

Grace Gale

The members of Denver based Grace Gale decided it was time to try something new. As a band, they have charted a course and set sail with one singular destination: a hardcore band with the partying sense of Mötley Crüe, and the wholesome likability of Ranger Rick.

Whether it's doing lines of coffee in its powder form off blonde bombshells (or soccer moms depending on what time of day it is) or explaining the life cycle of the Northern Icelandic Tree Owls to 4th graders, Grace Gale will continue to rock until one of them is dumb enough to fall in love. But let's all hope they're too smart for that.

Bionic Ghost Kids

Okay so I love all types of music, even dancy, screamy electronic music.
The Bionic Ghost Kids were founded in 2004 by two members of the band Everest. During a break from Everest they produced the first songs in a secondary studio. On programmed drums synthesizers and guitars , they laid out the vocals and shred it. The result is a mixture of post-hardcore and electro , paired with elements from the dance and pop sections.
The album "Horror Show" follows the concept of a horror movie . Thematically, it's all about zombiesvampires and similar creatures. The lyrics tell the story of a small town plagued by evil and of the last surviving couple and their tragic end. They also released an EP in 2011 that I have included.
